Travel Tips & Recommendations

  • IMPORTANT: New Health Insurance Requirement
    1. As you prepare for your trip, we would like to inform you of an important new requirement from the Argentine government. As of May 2025, Argentina has implemented additional health coverage requirements for all travelers entering the country. Specifically, visitors must now have health insurance that covers:

    2. Private medical care
    3. Emergency medical transportation
    4. This is a mandatory requirement for entry into Argentina. Please work with your HR and/or Legal team to ensure your health insurance meets these new requirements. Full details and instructions for obtaining compliant coverage can be found here: https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/decreto-366-2025-413297/texto

  • Cultural Etiquette
    1. Greetings: A friendly kiss on the cheek (even between men and women who just met) is a common greeting in social settings. In formal or professional contexts, a handshake is fine.
    2. Personal Space: Argentines tend to stand closer and use more physical touch when talking (like a light pat on the arm). Don’t step back too much — it can seem distant or cold.
    3. Punctuality: Being a little late (10–15 minutes) to social gatherings is normal, but try to be on time for business meetings.
    4. Conversation: People enjoy lively discussions — especially about food, football (soccer), and local culture. Avoid sensitive topics like politics or the country’s economy unless you know the person well.
    5. Language: The official language is Spanish (Rioplatense Spanish), and English isn’t widely spoken outside major tourist areas. When speaking English with locals, speak slowly and clearly, avoid slang or idioms, and be patient — many appreciate the effort but may find it challenging to follow fast or complex speech. Learning a few words in Spanish (like por favor, gracias, hola, chau) goes a long way and is warmly received.
    6. Dining: Dinner usually starts late — often around 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.. It’s common to linger at the table and enjoy conversation after eating.
    7. Tipping: A 10% tip is customary in restaurants if it’s not already included in the bill.
    8. Dress Code: Argentines generally dress neatly and with style — even for casual outings. Looking well-presented is a sign of respect.
    9. Body Language: Good eye contact shows confidence and sincerity. Crossing your arms or keeping your hands in your pockets while talking can come off as dismissive.
    10. Social Warmth: Expect warmth, openness, and curiosity — people often ask personal questions (like about family or where you’re from) as a sign of friendliness, not intrusion.
  • Safety Tips
    1. Buenos Aires is known for large and frequent demonstrations, so it's advised to avoid large gatherings beyond our events and to monitor the news.
    2. Avoid public-wifi.
    3. Practice alertness. Avoid cellphone usage on the streets, carry backpacks in the front, and be mindful of your surroundings.
    4. Avoid wearing crypto swag outside of the venue.

Rules & Etiquette

To make the most of our time together, please follow these ground rules:

  • Respect time: Start and end sessions on schedule. Keep discussions focused and concise.
  • One mic at a time: Make space for all voices to be heard.
  • Assume positive intent: Approach discussions with openness and curiosity, not defensiveness.
  • Stay present: Limit multitasking during sessions; be engaged with the group.
  • Iterate, don’t perfect: Capture ideas quickly — rough notes are better than none.
  • Session Recordings: Sessions will be recorded and transcribed for both internal use and publication onto YouTube.
